Abstract

This article analyzes the dynamics of workplace bullying, sexual harassment, and discrimination experienced by temporary teachers of the Federal District Secretariat of State of Education (SEEDF), within a context marked by the structural precarization of teaching labor relations. The study adopts a mixed-methods methodological approach, combining quantitative data from an anonymous survey administered to 224 temporary teachers with qualitative analysis of written testimonies, grounded in reflexive ethnographic participant observation. Results reveal a critical prevalence of institutional violence, with 90.2% of respondents reporting having experienced or witnessed situations of harassment or discrimination within the school environment. Workplace harassment emerges as the most recurrent form of violence, followed by significant episodes of sexual harassment and discriminatory practices associated with contractual status, gender, race, gender identity, origin, and linguistic variation. Data show that school administrators are the primary perpetrators, underscoring the role of institutional hierarchies in fostering violence. Pearson’s Chi-square tests confirm that these practices are statistically associated with the hierarchical position of the perpetrators, the gender of the victims, and impacts on teachers’ mental health. It is concluded that the precarization of the employment bond acts as a structural factor of vulnerability and silencing, thereby requiring the strengthening of institutional policies for prevention, support, and accountability within the public education system.
