
These slides and supporting document accompany a hands-on tutorial held as part of the CRC 1357 Microplastics activities during the Winter Semester 2025/26 at the University of Bayreuth. The tutorial introduces research data management (RDM) in condensed-matter physics and materials science through practical exercises using the NOMAD platform. Participants are guided through typical research workflows, learning how to explore, document, and publish research data in a domain-specific repository. A central focus of the tutorial is the use of NOMAD as an electronic lab notebook (ELN), demonstrating how structured data models and rich metadata enable consistent documentation, shared entries, and collaboration within research groups and collaborative network projects. The materials are intended for researchers and PhD candidates interested in applying FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data practices in everyday experimental and computational materials-science research.
