AI in Goods Transportation

Abstract

Goods transportation through trucks and ports plays an essential role in every country’s economic development. However, this sector faces several challenges, such as poor road infrastructure, frequent road accidents, and unsafe driving practices. These issues reduce transportation efficiency and increase risks for drivers and other road users. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers powerful solutions to improve safety and reliability in truck-based goods transport. The proposed AI system focuses on two key areas: driver safety monitoring and safety-zone warnings around trucks.AI-powered driver monitoring uses smart cameras and sensors to continuously observe the driver’s face, eye movement, and reaction speed. If the system detects signs of drowsiness such as repeated blinking, head nodding, or delayed responses or any indication of alcohol influence, it immediately sends alerts. In advanced applications, the truck door will not unlock unless the driver passes an alcohol-detection check. This ensures that only fit and alert drivers operate heavy vehicles, significantly reducing accident risks. To avoid blind-spot collisions, an AI-enabled warning system creates a virtual safety zone around the truck. If smaller vehicles enter this zone, the system warns both parties, helping reduce side-impact accidents. In summary, the proposed AI system enhances goods transportation by improving driver safety and reducing blind-spot accidents, leading to a safer and more efficient transport environment.
