Suplementación nutricional en pacientes con sarcopenia, tratamiento y prevención: Una revisión sistemática

Abstract

Este artículo se propone sistematizar la evidencia científica sobre la suplementación nutricional en pacientes con sarcopenia, tratamiento y prevención. Se realizó la búsqueda exhaustiva en las siguientes fuentes de información “Medline” (vía “PubMed”), a través de Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS) y “SciELO”. Se encontraron 26 artículos, que describen el uso de diferentes suplementos donde se evidencia un beneficio para el tratamiento y prevención de la sarcopenia en diferentes grupos poblacionales. De acuerdo a la evidencia estudiada se confirma que la nutrición y la suplementación desempeñan un papel importante tanto en la prevención como en el tratamiento de la sarcopenia. Una de las intervenciones más efectivas para tratar la sarcopenia o disminuir su empeoramiento con el tiempo se basan actualmente en la administración de algunos suplementos nutricionalescomo proteína de suero, vitamina D, ácidos grasos omega 3, β-hidroxi-β-metilbutirato (HMB), creatina y leucina son algunos de los suplementos que mayor evidencia científica muestran.
