
Tento článok skúma, či všetky regulačné procesy prebiehajúce na biologických membránach majú v podstate fyzickú povahu. Tvrdí, že regulácia v živých systémoch nevychádza zo symbolických inštrukcií alebo abstraktných kódov, ale z fyzikálne realizovaných rozdielov, ktoré ovplyvňujú budúce správanie systému. Na úrovni membrány sú interakcie riadené elektrostatickými silami, hydrofóbnymi účinkami, mechanickými obmedzeniami a energetickými gradientmi, ktoré spolu formujú podmienky, za ktorých prebiehajú chemické reakcie.
