
Enterprise AI investment of $30-40 billion is producing a 95% failure rate. This paper argues the failures are structural and establishes AI Philosophy as a design discipline to address them. The discipline operates across three axes: horizontal (infrastructure and data), vertical (epistemology and reasoning quality), and grounding (teleology and mereology). Current approaches optimize along the horizontal axis while neglecting the grounding considerations that determine production success. The paper presents the business case, diagnoses why current approaches fail, introduces the three-axis framework, develops a research agenda, and demonstrates practical architectural application.
