ZERO-DOWNTIME FINTECH: RESILIENT SYSTEMS BY DESIGN

Abstract

This paper presents a practitioner-focused blueprint for resilient system architecture tailored to high-availability Fin- Tech platforms, emphasizing end-to-end fault tolerance, security- by-design, and compliance readiness. It unifies microservices and service mesh patterns for isolation and mTLS-backed service identity, extends reliability with zone-aware and multi-region active/active deployments, and operationalizes automated failover across application, data, and network layers. A zero-trust posture is embedded through least-privilege identities, conditional access, micro-segmentation, and pervasive encryption in transit and at rest. The design integrates DevSecOps controls—SAST/SCA, IaC policy-as-code, and container/image scanning—ensuring secure delivery pipelines and immutable, continuously-audited infras- tructure. Data resilience is addressed via geo-redundant storage, multi-region replication, tiered RPO/RTO strategies, immutable backups, and idempotent, duplicate-tolerant streaming pipelines. The framework maps architectural controls to FinTech regu- latory obligations (e.g., PCI-DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR), enabling audit-ready evidence and continuous compliance re- porting. Collectively, these patterns form a defensible, scalable reference architecture that minimizes downtime, contains blast radius, and sustains critical financial workloads under failures, threats, and evolving regulatory demands.
