Abstract

The article presents the results of the first stage of collecting, localizing, and studying the toponyms and microtoponyms of the Trakhtemyriv Peninsula region. A total of 292 toponyms were recorded, of which more than 91% were localized. Archival land ownership maps from the mid-19th to the mid-20th centuries proved to be the most important sources in the search for names. A 1959 map was particularly unique, yielding 69 names of tracts. Local respondents provided up to a hundred toponyms. The area around Hryhorivka yielded 144 names, which is one of the highest figures in Ukraine. The article examines the chronology and origin of the names of local settlements and analyzes specific groups of toponyms and individual names. The oldest names (excluding oikonyms) have been preserved since the 17th–18th centuries. A large number of toponyms originated in the 19th century, and some in the second half of the 20th century. The authors highlight the challenges and difficulties that accompanied the process of collecting and systematizing the corpus of local tract names. Among these are distorted names and discrepancies in tract locations according to different sources
