This paper is a synthesis of information on recreational fishing in Europe and Romania. In recent years, this type of fishing has become increasingly important in the European Union, and the number of recreational fishermen has increased considerably. Although the economic and social benefits at a global level are large and the ecological impact on some fish stocks can be considerable, it is necessary that the management in which recreational fishing is carried out is also sustainable. The purpose of this paper is to present the current state of recreational fishing in the EU and in our country.
