Abstract

This study analyzes misinformation campaigns and hate speech targeting Brazil’s Maria da Penha Law in conspiracist Telegram communities between 2019 and 2025. Based on more than 680 posts, the research identifies narratives aimed at discrediting the law’s origins, questioning its legitimacy, and reversing victim and aggressor roles, often accompanied by explicit misogyny and advocacy of violence. The findings indicate a significant increase in such attacks in recent years, with high levels of reach and engagement, as well as the involvement of content producers with specific political and economic interests. The study shows how misinformation about gender related public policies degrades public debate, weakens social support for the protection of women, and increases the risk of offline violence. The analysis is framed using the Information Disorder Cycle.
