Abstract

Este estudo analisa a circulação de desinformação sobre diabetes em comunidades conspiracionistas do Telegram na América Latina e no Caribe entre 2016 e 2025. A partir da análise de mais de 23 mil publicações, o trabalho identifica padrões narrativos recorrentes que associam a doença a teorias conspiratórias, curas milagrosas e práticas de charlatanismo, frequentemente vinculadas à venda de substâncias potencialmente perigosas. Os resultados mostram que o Brasil concentra mais da metade das publicações analisadas e ocupa posição central na difusão regional dessas narrativas. O estudo evidencia como a desinformação em saúde pode comprometer a adesão a tratamentos médicos, ampliar riscos à saúde pública e corroer a confiança em instituições científicas e sanitárias. A análise é organizada a partir do Ciclo de Desordem Informacional, articulando fatores contextuais, atores com interesses próprios, estratégias narrativas e impactos sobre políticas públicas e a democracia.

This study examines the circulation of misinformation about diabetes in conspiracist Telegram communities across Latin America and the Caribbean between 2016 and 2025. Based on the analysis of over 23,000 posts, the research identifies recurring narrative patterns that link diabetes to conspiracy theories, so called miracle cures, and forms of medical charlatanism, often connected to the commercialization of potentially harmful substances. The findings show that Brazil accounts for more than half of the analyzed content and plays a central role in regional dissemination. The study highlights how health related misinformation undermines adherence to medical treatments, increases public health risks, and erodes trust in scientific and health institutions. The analysis is structured around the Information Disorder Cycle, integrating contextual factors, interested actors, narrative strategies, and implications for public policy and democracy.
