Variable Radio Sources from the First Two Epochs of the VLA Sky Survey

Abstract

Supplementary data for: "A Census of Variable Radio Sources at 3GHz" If you make use of this data in your work, we ask that you cite the corresponding paper (Gordon et al. 2026, OJAp, submitted, arXiv: 2508.00976). Contents Table1_variables.fits, a table of variable radio sources found using the first two epochs of VLASS. The electronic version of Table 1 from the associated paper. Table5_xIDs.fits, a table of multiwvelength cross IDs for VLASS sources (including variables) whose average brightness across the first two VLASS epochs was > 20 mJy. The electronic version of Table 5 from the associated paper. variable_qa_images.tar.gz, a tarball containing the QA images for the 4,124 candidate variable radio sources identified in Section 3.4 of the associated paper. The filename of each image corresponds to the VLASS1QLCIR name of the source in Table 1. Table Column Definitions Table 1: Variables Column Name Unit Description VLASS1QLCIR - Name of the source in VLASS Epoch 1 VLASS2QLCIR - Name of the source in VLASS Epoch 2 RA deg Right ascension of the source Dec deg Declination of the source MJD1 day MJD of the Epoch 1 observation MJD2 day MJD of the Epoch 2 observation dS mJy Change in flux between Epoch 1 and 2 e_dS mJy Uncertainty in dS meanS mJy Mean flux from Epoch 1 and Epoch 2 observations VarSig - Significance of variability based on the variability of all sources within that VLASS Tile modidx - Modulation index of the variability f_vi - Visual inspection flag, sources with f_vi=0 are likely real variable sources Table 5: Multiwavelength cross IDs Column Name Unit Description VLASS1QLCIR - Name of the source in VLASS Epoch 1 AllWISE - Name of the source in the AllWISE catalog (CDS:II/328) W1mag mag W1-band (3.4um) magnitude of the source in AllWISE e_W1mag mag Uncertainty in W1mag W2mag mag W2-band (4.3um) magnitude of the source in AllWISE e_W2mag mag Uncertainty in W2mag W3mag mag W3-band (12um) magnitude of the source in AllWISE e_W3mag mag Uncertainty in W3mag 4FGL - Name of the source (Source_Name) in the 4FGL DR4 catalog (4FGL-DR4) Flux1000 1e10 cm^{-2} s^{-1} Integrated gamma-ray flux between 1 and 1000 GeV e_Flux1000 1e10 cm^{-2} s^{-1} Uncertainty in Flux1000 VariabilityIndex - Gamma-ray variability index (> 24.72 is indicitave of variability) zID - ID of the source in the optical catalog that z was obtained from (either SDSS16 from CDS:V/154, or ID from CDS:VII/292) z - Redshift of the source e_z - Uncertainty in z
