PhD Qualifier Report and Presentation delivered by Lennart John Baals at the University of Twente

Abstract

OverviewThis deposit archives the written report and slide deck submitted and presented for my PhD Qualifier / PhD confirmation milestone at the University of Twente. The qualifier forms part of the formal doctoral trajectory and documents the research motivation, scope, methodological plan, and intended dissertation structure at the time of admission into the PhD programme. The deposit includes both the compiled PDFs and the corresponding LaTeX source files (including all graphics required to rebuild the documents), enabling long-term preservation and transparent reuse of the materials for academic record-keeping. Contents of this deposit (file-level summary) Qualifier report (PDF): PhD_Qualifier_Report_Lennart_Baals.pdf Qualifier presentation (PDF): PhD_Qualifier_Presentation_Lennart_Baals.pdf LaTeX source (report): Qualifier_report_Lennart_Baals.tex LaTeX source (slides): Qualifier_presentation_Lennart_Baals.tex Figures / assets: Graphics.zip (contains all image files referenced by the LaTeX sources) How to rebuild the documents (reproducibility)To regenerate the PDFs from source: Extract Graphics.zip into a local Graphics/ folder (or the folder path expected by the .tex files). Compile the report and slides using a standard LaTeX toolchain (e.g., pdflatex or latexmk). The compiled outputs should reproduce the PDFs included in this deposit (minor differences may occur depending on TeX distribution and package versions). Context and intended useThese materials are archived to: provide an immutable scholarly record of the doctoral qualification milestone, document the project framing and planned research contributions at the time of qualification, and support open, citable reference to the qualifier documents where appropriate (e.g., for institutional reporting, project documentation, or supervisory records). The qualifier documents may contain early-stage framing and planning language; later dissertation chapters and publications may diverge from the initial plan as the research evolved. Data and confidentiality noteThis deposit contains documents and figures only. It does not include raw third-party datasets, confidential information, or restricted-access data. Any references to external data sources, software, or literature are included solely for academic documentation purposes.
