Distribution of African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) in sampled ponds in Flanders, Belgium

Abstract

This dataset represents ponds invaded by the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis (Daudin, 1802)) in Flanders, Belgium in 2025, based on eDNA data from 2024 and catch data from 2024 and 2025. eDNA data are obtained from Everts et al. (2025, https://doi.org/10.3897/neobiota.102.150311) Catch data are obtained from field work on Xenopus Laevis by INBO in 2024 and 2025 (Segal et al., in prep). These data suppliment the report Segal et al. (2025, https://doi.org/10.21436/INBO.A.5131). File metadata The data are expressed as a GeoPackage file. For each pond you can find the following information in the attribute table: Name: Pond identifier. X.laevis: Is X. laevis detected in the pond (ja or nee). jaargang X: Year(s) of the detection of Xenopus laevis either by eDNA or by capture with fykes or by both methods. beheer X (Dutch for “active management”): Is the pond under active management now or planned for in the near future (ja or nee)? comment: Extra information on execution method of active management or why it hasn't been executed (yet). Tri.cri.: Is Triturus cristatus (Laurenti, 1768) also detected in the pond (ja or nee) If yes: jaargang T = year of positive detection either by eDNA or by capture with fykes or by both methods. If no: jaargang T = year of negative detection either by eDNA or by capture with fykes or by both methods.
