musicobservatoryutils is a small collection of lightweight utility functionsfor music metadata processing and knowledge engineering workflows in the Open Music Observatory. The package provides self-contained helpers for recurring ETL tasks such as parsing and interpreting International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC) according to ISO 3901 and IFPI practices, and deterministic, ASCII-based string normalisation for identifier-style matching (e.g. CISAC IPI-style normalisation). Functions are designed to minimize interdependencies, support large-scale, reproducible data pipelines, and provide transparent, conservative interpretations of metadata. The package does not assign authoritative identifiers and does not replace official standards bodies or registries.
