Abstract

This is the May 2012 issue of the International Commission on Physics Education (ICPE) newsletter. It features reflections on the importance of language in physics education, particularly in teaching energy concepts, and pays tribute to outgoing editor Ian Johnston. The issue includes a comprehensive article on the evolution of Physics Education Research in Brazil, highlighting its growth, challenges, and recommendations for policy and practice. It introduces new ICPE commissioners from around the world and announces the inaugural World Conference on Physics Education in Istanbul, themed “The Role of Context, Culture, and Representations in Physics Teaching and Learning.”
