Abstract: The proper structuring of scientific knowledge allows the identification of paradigms, challenges, and gaps in a specific knowledge area. This article presents a methodology to make this structuring more efficient and objective focusing on a more strategic retrieval by end user. The categories described in the methodology emphasize the scientific knowledge mediation path to establish a direction during the process of building the users' knowledge base. This research is a systematized clipping, resulting from a doctoral thesis in the field of Information and Knowledge Organization aiming to contribute to the scientific knowledge representation. The fragmentation of knowledge and technological advances challenge scientific fields to externalize their contemporary paradigms in a clearer and more objective way. Thus, we discuss on the structuring and mediation of contemporary perspectives in the scientific research context for an area of knowledge, based on the DICM phenomenon (Data - Information - Knowledge - Message) established by Chaim Zins. We conclude that the conceptions of a knowledge area are concentrated in three questions: phenomena, domain, and scope. The methodological structuring helps to delimit these issues, facilitate the data access, use, and reuse, information, and knowledge to leverage the potential of research according to the contemporary paradigms found in scientific works.
