Abstract

Elementos de filosofía presenta, con claridad didáctica, el itinerario intelectual que José Gregorio Hernández propone para comprender los grandes objetos de la reflexión: el alma, el mundo y Dios. Tras definir filosofía y ciencia, el autor ordena los fundamentos del conocer y desarrolla una lógica completa como herramienta para pensar con rigor: conceptos, definiciones, juicio y proposición, raciocinio, argumentación, criterios de verdad y métodos científicos (analítico, sintético, inductivo y deductivo). El tratado se abre luego a la Estética, donde examina la belleza y el arte como realización sensible de un ideal, y a la Moral, con una exposición de la conciencia, el deber y las aplicaciones prácticas de la vida ética. En su segunda parte aborda las ciencias metafísicas: ontología, crítica del conocimiento, teodicea (existencia, naturaleza y atributos divinos), psicología racional y cosmología. Cierra con una historia de la filosofía que recorre desde los presocráticos hasta la modernidad, vinculando autores y métodos. Esta edición reproduce la segunda edición de 1912, incorpora correcciones de fe de erratas y actualiza la acentuación para acercar el texto al lector actual. Leído hoy, funciona como manual de iniciación y como testimonio de una mente venezolana que integra ciencia, tradición clásica y fe, con serenidad.
