Abstract

Ce qui est connu. Un lien entre le syndrome d'apnée obstructive du sommeil (SAOS) et le glaucome primitif à angle ouvert (GPAO) est évoqué, mais les données chez les patients mélanodermes d'Afrique subsaharienne sont rares. La question abordée. Cette étude explore l'association entre le GPAO et les symptômes évocateurs de SAOS (ronflement, somnolence diurne) dans une population ivoirienne. Ce que l’étude apporte de nouveau. Les patients glaucomateux présentaient significativement plus de ronflements (63% vs 36%) et de somnolence diurne sévère. Le risque de somnolence diurne était multiplié par environ 3,8 selon l'échelle d'Epworth chez les cas. Les implications. Un interrogatoire ciblé sur le sommeil (ronflement, somnolence) devrait être systématique chez les patients atteints de GPAO en Afrique. Cette démarche simple peut identifier un SAOS méconnu, dont la prise en charge pourrait influencer le pronostic du glaucome. Cet article est disponible en intégralité sur Health Research in Africa.
