Lu-177 Phantom scans at 8 Belgian hospitals using 13 clinical SPECT/CT systems

Abstract

Data of a uniform cylindrical and a NEMA phantom with hot spheres and a cold background that were scanned at 8 Belgian hospitals using 13 different SPECT/CT systems. The phantoms were prepared and scanned at UZ Leuven, before being shipped for measurement at 7 other Belgian hospitals over the course of two weeks. Acquisitions and reconstructions were performed using the existing clinical protocols at each site, but also using standardized settings. The resulting dataset therefore reflects the current clinical situation of Lu-177 imaging, as well as the potential of harmonizing acquisition and reconstruction protocols. The non-standardized images highlight the variability in clinical images resulting from variable site-specific protocols. The standardized images show consistency between systems of the same type, but differences between different system type remain large. The measurement of the activity in both phantoms was traceable to primary standards. For more details on phantom preparation scanner types and scanner protocols, see "Multicenter Comparison of Radionuclide Calibrators and SPECT/CT Protocols for Quantitative 177Lu Imaging in Clinical Practice"
