Abstract

The standardized geographical mask files for the EYECLIMA project define the core spatial framework used for data aggregation. They cover a consistent European domain extending from 30° N to 80° N and 20° W to 35° E. To meet the diverse requirements of greenhouse gas (GHG) modeling systems, the masks are provided at five commonly used spatial resolutions: 0.1°, 0.125°, 0.2°, 0.5°, and 1°.Each file contains the following variables: Variable Name Type/Dimension Description latitude 1D Latitudinal Mid-points, degrees North longitude 1D Longitudinal Mid-points, degrees East grid_area Geo2D geographical area m² country_all_mask Geo2D Comprehensive Country Mask, identifying cells belonging to the land territory and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) country_domain_mask Geo2D Core Terrestrial Mask, identifying cells belonging only to the land area (explicitly excluding the EEZ) country_code - Country Codes, limited to the scope of EU27+3 eez_mask Geo2D Exclusive Economic Zone Mask eez_code - EEZ Codes
