Type species: Cryptognatha auriculata Mulsant, 1850; by subsequent designation of Crotch (1874). Distribution by States in the Northeast Region of Brazil. Rio Grande do Norte; Pernambuco; Bahia; Alagoas; Sergipe. Species from the Northeast Region of Brazil. Cryptognatha amabilis Gorham, 1897; Cryptognatha auriculata Mulsant, 1850 [new record for Brazil] (Fig. 19); Cryptognatha celia González & Hanley, 2019; Cryptognatha reedi Crotch, 1874; Cryptognatha shelia González & Hanley, 2019. Material examined. Cryptognatha auriculata: “ Sergipe – AJU\ I-II/ 1983\ J.M.S. Ferreira col.” [handwritten white label] “ Cryptognatha / auriculata / Mulsant, 1850 / J. Duarte-de-Mélo det. 2023” [white label] 1 ex. [DZUP 289974]; “ Sergipe – AJU\ I-II/ 1983\ J.M.S. Ferreira col.” [handwritten white label] “ Cryptognatha / sp./ det. R.Gordon 85” [partially handwritten white label] “ Cryptognatha / auriculata / Mulsant, 1850 / J. Duarte-de-Mélo det. 2023” [white label] 2 ex. [DZUP 289973]. Comments. The genus Cryptognatha has now twelve species occurring in Brazil, with C. auriculata being the fifth species recorded for NE Brazil (González et al. 2019).
