Abstract

Vulgichneumon taiwanensis (Uchida, 1927) (Figs 75–79) Material. [Japan] Kagoshima Pref.: Amamioshima Isl., Nase, Uragami, 1 ♀ 9–11.V.2009, T. Sayama.; Amamioshima Isl., Agr. C., 2 ♀♀ 5 ♂♂ 24–25.VII.2008, leg. T. Soyama leg.; Yakushima Isl., Collison trap (H2), 250 m, 1 ♀ 5–8. VI. 2007, T. Yamauchi et al. leg. (Kanagawa). Description. Female. Body length 10.5–13.5 mm. Head. Flagellum with 31–32 flagellomeres, filiform; 1 st flagellomere 1.8–2.1× as long as wide, 7 th flagellomere square, widest flagellomeres 1.3× as wide as long. OED 1.0–1.4× ocellar diameter. MI 0.6–0.8. Mesosoma. Area superomedia hexagonal, about as long as wide. Hind femur 3.3–3.5× as long as wide. External surface of hind tibia without denticular spines. Metasoma. Postpetiole densely punctate, with latero-median carina, median field slightly elevated. Gastrocoelus triangularly impressed, with ridges. Thyridium small, 0.4× as wide as interval between thyridia. 2 nd tergite 1.4–1.5× as wide as long. 2 nd and 3 rd tergites densely rugose-punctate, dull. Color. Black. Flagellomeres 8–13 ivory dorsally. Scutellum yellow. Apical margin of 6 th tergite and dorsal spot of 7 th tergite ivory. Wings slightly infuscate, pterostigma black. Male. Body length 11.0– 12.5 mm. Structure. Flagellum with 33–35 flagellomeres, bristle-shaped; 1 st flagellomere 2.4–2.6× as long as wide, distal flagellomeres slightly nodose. Tyloids on flagellomeres 6/7–19/20, long-oval, maximally 0.7× as long as their flagellomeres. OED 1.1–1.2× ocellar diameter. MI 0.3–0.4. Hind femur 3.7–4.1× as long as wide. Postpetiole densely punctate. Gastrocoelus slightly longer than wide, with ridges. Thyridium oblique, 0.4× as wide as interval between thyridia. 2 nd tergite about as long as wide. Color. Black. Flagellum ± reddish ventrally, flagellomeres 14–16/17 with dorsal ivory stripes. Clypeus sometimes with red lateral spots. Collar sometimes with reddish spot, tegula sometimes with yellow spot. Scutellum and dorsal spot of 7 th tergite ivory. Legs black; fore femur and fore and mid tibiae with reddish frontal stripes. Wings moderately infuscate, pterostigma black. Distribution. Japan (Honshu, Kyushu, Yakushima Isl., Amamioshima Isl., Okinawajima Isl. and Ishigakijima Isl.), China and Taiwan. New record for Yakushima Isl.
