Abstract

This paper explores the multifaceted geographies of climate migration and resilience stemming from the rapid degradation of the global cryosphere, with a particular focus on the contrasting scales of Antarctica and the Pacific Atolls. It investigates how melting glaciers, ice sheets, and sea-level rise are directly displacing communities, altering livelihoods, and forcing complex adaptation strategies. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining geospatial analysis of cryospheric change and sea-level projections with qualitative ethnographic data from vulnerable communities. Key findings highlight the disproportionate impacts on low-lying island nations, where cultural heritage and traditional ecological knowledge are severely threatened, and the emerging geopolitical challenges posed by changes in polar regions. The paper posits that understanding these diverse geographies is crucial for developing equitable and effective climate change policies, fostering international cooperation, and supporting community-led resilience initiatives.
