Abstract

🇬🇧 Description (English) Epidemiology is a comprehensive educational resource that introduces and explores the foundational concepts, methods, and applications of epidemiology as a core discipline of public health. Organized into 16 instructional modules, the book covers a broad spectrum of content, from the historical development of epidemiology, including classical contributions by Hippocrates and John Snow, to essential topics such as measures of disease frequency, epidemiological study designs, surveillance systems, infectious and chronic disease epidemiology, applied biostatistics, social determinants of health, environmental and genetic epidemiology, and health policy. Richly illustrated and written in clear, accessible language, the material provides conceptual explanations, practical examples, case studies, summary tables, and reflective activities, guiding students in understanding the scientific investigation of health–disease processes and the practical applications of epidemiology in planning, monitoring, and evaluating health actions. Designed for undergraduate health programs — such as Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, and Occupational Therapy — this book supports the technical, analytical, and ethical development of future health professionals and reinforces the central role of epidemiology in disease prevention and health promotion.
