Deliverable 1.5: Demonstration of ALI monitoring capabilities based on existing satellite and in situ services

Abstract

The Arctic is more affected by climate warming than any other region. To monitor the ongoing changes, to predict the evolution of climate system and to develop mitigation measures, we need a coherent system of Earth Observation (EO). The current observational systems for the Arctic environment are fragmented, incoherent, and not tuned to user needs. Arctic PASSION will address the urgent need for coordinated and accessible Earth observation and information services for the Arctic region and to co-create a coherent, integrated pan-Arctic Observing System of Systems (pan-AOSS). At University of Bristol, we focus on the Arctic land ice. Providing a comprehensive and robust monitoring system for Arctic Land Ice (ALI, comprising glaciers, ice caps and the Greenland Ice Sheet) requires integration of multiple sensors with insitu and auxiliary data sets. In this deliverable, we develop and demonstrate such a system for monitoring ALI ECVs including sensitivity to individual data set performance and availability.
