Abstract

This text, methodologically grounded in Artistic Research (BORGDORFF, 2017; NELSON, 2022), presents an introductory reflection on the relationship between somatic practices —especially the Feldenkrais Method and Eutony— and free improvisation in music, based on the author’s experience as a cellist and improviser. Embedded in a doctoral project at UFMG, the work investigates how bodily awareness and reorganization can expand the musician’s expressive possibilities, generating new sonic and gestural materialities. The study is guided by the following questions: how can established bodily habits be deconstructed to discover non-habitual forms of action? To what extent can somatic practices transform the physical and mental reference points involved in the improvisatory process? The presentation includes an improvised performance based on the poem “O corpo,” by Arnaldo Antunes.
