
This report describes the integration of PIDs for instruments within the Sensor Management System (SMS). It outlines the PID registration workflow, and discusses the metadata used, including its mapping to the PIDINST metadata schema. It also presents the elaborated curation processes, employed by the Helmholtz Centers involved. For a variety of reasons, the SMS serves as a blueprint on how to implement PID registration for instruments. While registration within the SMS is done via the B2INST service, PID4NFDI also offers a use case report on the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, where instruments are registered with DataCite.
