Abstract

Teachers’ and students’ technology skills need to be continually advanced. This chapter presents a new technological skill for teachers and students to acquire: computer programming. After outlining how teachers’ technological skills are perceived in Quebec and outside Quebec, we will highlight the social relevance of learning computer programming. We will also point out the potentialities of the pedagogical uses of computer programming for learning and teaching. The last part of our chapter will present a case study of the pedagogical uses of computer programming in elementary schools in Quebec.
