Functional Consciousness Collapse Theory (FCCT)

Abstract

Functional Consciousness Collapse Theory (FCCT) proposes a fully formalized, computable model of consciousness based on probabilistic selection dynamics. Rather than treating consciousness as an irreducible metaphysical property, FCCT frames each conscious moment as the result of an interaction between three fundamental components: the sensory state S, the memory structure M, and the priority vector W. The theory defines a candidate state space X, a scoring function f, and a Gibbs/Boltzmann-style policy distribution that determines the collapse of conscious content Cₜ. FCCT provides a mathematical formulation of attention, decision precision, and subjective experience through measurable quantities such as the consciousness level metric Lₜ = Dₖₗ(πₜ ∥ Pₜ). A key contribution of the theory is the definition of a qualia equivalence space Q = (X × S) / ~, which formalizes subjective experience via functional indistinguishability. The projection function Φ, introduced as a learnable coordinate system for Q, allows empirical reconstruction of qualia classes from data. This repository contains the full preprint, the mathematical formulation, and the simulation code used to generate the figures in the paper. The work aims to offer a testable, computational framework for integrating neuroscience, AI, and philosophy of mind under a unified model of conscious dynamics.
