El Marco Internacional de Interoperabilidad de Imágenes (IIIF): fundamentos técnicos, implementación y proyecciones futuras

Abstract

IIIF es un estándar internacional diseñado para mejorar la interoperabilidad y reutilización de imágenes digitales ante la fragmentación de colecciones y las limitaciones de protocolos anteriores como OAI-PMH. Se describen sus componentes principales —especialmente las APIs de imagen, presentación y búsqueda— que permiten solicitar derivados bajo demanda, estructurar objetos digitales complejos mediante manifiestos en JSON-LD y realizar búsquedas a texto completo vinculando ficheros OCR y anotaciones. También se resumen los elementos clave del ecosistema técnico (servidores de imagen, generadores de manifiestos y visores como Mirador o Universal Viewer) y se muestra su incorporación en plataformas como Omeka S. A través de diversos casos reales (Gallica, e-codices, Biblissima, Oficina del Historiador de La Habana), se ilustra cómo IIIF facilita la interoperabilidad, la anotación enriquecida y la reconstrucción virtual de recursos patrimoniales. La presentación concluye destacando su potencial para mejorar la experiencia de usuario, permitir analíticas avanzadas y evolucionar hacia nuevos tipos de contenido, incluyendo audiovisuales, 3D y datos geoespaciales.
