Relationship between Anaerobic Power and Leg Volume with Underwater Dolphin Foot Kick in Elite Swimmers

Abstract

Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between anaerobic power and leg volume and underwater dolphin kick in elite swimmers. A total of 17 licensed swimmers, 7 girls and 10 boys, aged 9-10 from Toroslar Sports Club participated in this study. After determining the leg volume of the athletes with the frustum method, the linear regression formula was used. The complementarity coefficient of this formula is R2 = .95 and the standard error of the estimate is .056. In determining the anaerobic power, a vertical jump test, the validity and reliability of which is accepted by sports scientists, was performed. The value was recorded in cm. and the jumped distance was calculated by substituting it in the Lewis formula. Shapiro-Wilk Test was applied to determine whether the data were normally distributed. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, minimum-maximum, median, percentage distributions were used to understand the general distribution and characteristics of the data. “Pearson” correlation analysis was used to determine the linear relationships between the total leg volume of the athletes and their underwater dolphin kick performances. According to the results, there was a positive and significant relationship between total leg volume and vertical jump performance (r=0.752; p0.05). The study shows that leg volume and anaerobic power are related, but additional factors such as technique, coordination and flexibility should also be taken into account in underwater dolphin kick performance. It is thought that this study will shed light on the training programs of coaches. Bu çalışmaya Toroslar Spor Kulübünden 9-10 yaş aralığında 7 kız, 10 erkek toplam 17 lisanslı yüzücü katılmıştır. Sporcuların bacak hacmi frustum yöntemi ile belirlendikten sonra doğrusal regresyon formülü kullanılmıştır. Bu formülün tamamlayıcılık katsayısı R2 =.95 ve kestirim standart hatası 056’dır. Anaerobik gücün belirlenmesinde, spor bilimcileri tarafından geçerlilik ve güvenirliği kabul edilmiş dikey sıçrama testi yapılmıştır. Değer cm. olarak kaydedilmiş olup sıçranılan mesafe Lewis formülünde yerine konarak hesaplanmıştır. Verilerin normal dağılıp dağılmadığını belirlemek için Shapiro-Wilk Testi uygulanmıştır. Verilerin genel dağılımını ve özelliklerini anlamak için ortalama, standart sapma, minimum-maksimum, medyan, yüzde dağılımları gibi betimleyici istatistikler kullanılmıştır. Sporcuların toplam bacak hacminin Sualtı Dolfin Ayak Vuruşu performansları arasındaki doğrusal ilişkileri belirlemek için “Pearson” korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlara göre, toplam bacak hacmi ile dikey sıçrama performansı arasında pozitif ve anlamlı bir ilişki bulunurken (r=0,752; p0,05). Çalışma, bacak hacmi ve anaerobik gücün ilişkili olduğunu, ancak sualtı dolfin ayak vuruşu performansında teknik, koordinasyon ve esneklik gibi ek faktörlerin de dikkate alınması gerektiğini göstermektedir.
