Abstract

Eroticism in the Horror Genre: The Female Body in "Jennifer’s Body" The horror narrative genre, when filtered through the filmic gaze of the camera, is known for producing explicit and violent images. By bringing the notion of violence closer to the notion of catharsis and, therefore, pleasure, it becomes possible to discern an erotic sphere that emerges in between. Carol J. Clover develops a theory of gender in American horror cinema and of the female body as the protagonist of suffering, formulating concepts that are widely used in this field. From this perspective, it is possible to analyze works such as Jennifer’s Body (Karyn Kusama, 2009) and to understand their potentialities.
