Idioms are distinctive linguistic units that embody the cultural values, ways of thinking, and lifestyle of the Vietnamese people. Therefore, teaching idioms should not stop at the level of recognition and comprehension, but should be placed within specific communicative situations. This paper focuses on teaching Vietnamese idioms in relation to communicative contexts—an approach that aims to enhance learners’ ability to use the language naturally and effectively. In particular, the paper proposes several methods for teaching idioms in connection with communicative contexts.
