Abstract

English version Even if all the streets are paved with gold, there’s still no beach underneath. The professional’s independence from the child as a denial of power. Critical comments on the concept of «Vigilant Care» in «New Authority» Following up on the discussion on the reception of the concept of «new authority» in schools and education, this article examines passages from Omer and Haller (2020) on «vigilant care». Instead of punishment and power, «presence» is supposed to ensure a conflict-free learning environment. The analysis shows that the principle of «vigilant care» can function as a form of increased surveillance and that the focus of educators on the goal of «independence from the child’s behaviour» obscures existing power relations that are embedded in the role of the teacher, thus removing them from professional responsibility and reflection. → für Zitate siehe Literaturverzeichnis im Dokument
