Multiprofessional Residency Program in Health Informatics and Digital Health: A Proposal for Brazil

Abstract

The digital transformation of Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS) demands qualified professionals capable of integrating data science, technology, and patient-centered care. This proposal outlines the structure and rationale of the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Health Informatics and Digital Health, aligned with IMIA, WHO, and CNRMS frameworks. The two-year, 4,320-hour program combines 80 % practical and 20 % theoretical activities to train specialists able to design, implement, and evaluate innovative technological solutions. Its curriculum includes interoperability, applied artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, data governance, immersive technologies, and precision medicine. The methodology adopts active learning, interdisciplinary integration, and user-centered design, emphasizing ethics, digital citizenship, and equity. The program aims to build a workforce prepared to lead the digital transformation of the SUS, fostering safer, smarter, and more inclusive health systems aligned with global standards for digital health and the emerging artificial intelligence era.
