GAMIFIED EDUCATION AND MENTAL HEALTH: APPLICATIONS IN BILINGUAL LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

This article examines the integration of gamification in bilingual language education during the era of globalization, with a focus on its impact on language proficiency and mental health. Bilingual learners face unique cognitive demands and emotional challenges, such as foreign language anxiety and cognitive load, which gamification addresses through game elements like points, badges, and challenges. Drawing on recent research (2023–2025), the paper examines theoretical foundations, mechanisms, tools (e.g., Duolingo, Quizlet), and classroom strategies, synthesizing psychological benefits including reduced anxiety, increased motivation, engagement, and self-confidence. Empirical findings from diverse contexts (e.g., China, Uzbekistan, Ecuador) demonstrate the efficacy of gamification in enhancing learning outcomes while mitigating stress, with considerations for limitations such as access equity and cultural adaptation. Ultimately, gamified approaches foster dynamic, supportive environments that prepare bilingual learners for global communication.
