Los hongos benéficos del suelo

Abstract

Los organismos benéficos del suelo incluyen animales, plantas y microorganismos; los cuales desempeñan un papel esencial en la salud y fertilidad edáfica. Intervienen en procesos ecológicos fundamentales como la descomposición de la materia orgánica, el reciclaje de nutrientes, la mejora de la estructura del suelo y el control biológico de plagas y enfermedades. Estas funciones mantienen la estabilidad ecológica y la productividad de los agroecosistemas. Entre los hongos benéficos destacan los hongos endófitos habitantes internos de raíz, tallo y hojas, que protegen contra patógenos, estrés abiótico y promueven el crecimiento vegetal mediante la producción de compuestos bioactivos, además de mejorar la absorción de nutrientes. Por otro lado, los hongos micorrícicos, ya sea endo o ectomicorrícicos, establecen asociaciones simbióticas con las raíces de las plantas, lo que incrementa la capacidad de absorción de agua y nutrientes (especialmente fósforo y nitrógeno) y aumentan la tolerancia frente a condiciones de estrés hídrico o edáfico. Un tercer tipo son los hongos solubilizadores de fósforo (HSF) que transforman las formas insolubles de este elemento en compuestos asimilables mediante la acción de enzimas fosfatasas y ácidos orgánicos. Este proceso mejora la disponibilidad de fósforo en el suelo y estimula el crecimiento y la productividad vegetal. En conjunto, estos hongos constituyen una herramienta biotecnológica sostenible con alto potencial para optimizar la nutrición vegetal, reducir el uso de fertilizantes químicos y fortalecer la resiliencia de los sistemas agrícolas, favoreciendo una producción más eficiente y ambientalmente responsable.
