Global and Regional ENVIREM Bioclimatic Variables (30 arc-second)

Abstract

This dataset provides 16 ENVIREM bioclimatic and topographic variables at 30-arcsecond (~1 km) spatial resolution for use in ecological niche modeling, species distribution modeling, and biogeographical analyses. The ENVIREM variables (Title and Bemmels, 2018) expand upon the standard WorldClim bioclimatic variables by including additional biologically relevant metrics such as potential evapotranspiration, aridity, thermicity, continentality, and growing degree days. All rasters were downloaded from the original ENVIREM repository and processed in R (terra v1.8.70). Each file was renamed to the standardized format “ENVIREM_varname_global.tif”. In addition to the global dataset, cropped regional subsets were generated for Europe, Asia, Eurasia, North America, South America, Africa, Australia, Indo-Pacific, Holarctic, New World, and Old World regions. Each regional set is provided as an individual ZIP archive. All rasters share the WGS84 coordinate reference system (EPSG:4326) and are provided as GeoTIFF files. Minimum file size thresholds (>100 KB) were applied to ensure integrity. These layers are fully compatible with other 30-arcsecond environmental datasets such as WorldClim or ENVIREM-derived climatic surfaces. Citation:Title PO, Bemmels JB (2018).
