THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY AND DIGITAL TOOLS IN ESL AND EFL INSTRUCTION: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Abstract

In recent years, technology has become an integral component of language education, reshaping instructional practices and expanding learning opportunities for students worldwide. The use of digital tools enables teachers to create more engaging, interactive, and personalized learning experiences. However, the extent and manner in which technology is integrated into language instruction vary significantly between English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. While both settings utilize technological resources, differences in access, exposure, and sociolinguistic environments influence how digital tools contribute to learning. This thesis examines the role of technology in ESL and EFL instruction, comparing integration approaches, identifying benefits and challenges, and suggesting practical strategies for enhancing digital language teaching.
