The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of Georgia’s national legal system in combating domestic violence against women. The research analyses the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code of Georgia and evaluates their compliance with international standards and best practices. It demonstrates that, although Georgia has adopted important legislative measures – such as the Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence and amendments that increase penalties for such offences – there remain considerable challenges in the practical implementation of these provisions. Key issues include the limited effectiveness of victim protection mechanisms, low public trust in law enforcement bodies, and insufficient training and resources for responsible institutions. Despite these shortcomings, the study identifies encouraging developments, including progressive legal reforms, the establishment of specialised victim support institutions, and the strengthening of protective measures.
