Simulación de cascadas de partículas secundarias en la atmósfera para Mérida-Venezuela

Abstract

Los rayos cósmicos son partículas de altas energías provenientes del espacio que alinteractuar con la atmósfera terrestre, generan una cascada de partıculas secundarias.Para estudiar este fenómeno, se utilizó la aplicación ARTI (Atmosferical RadiationTransport Information), desarrollada por el Observatorio Gigante Latinoamericano(LAGO), que incorpora el software CORSIKA para simular la producción y propagaciónde estas partículas secundarias en la atmósfera. LAGO es un observatorio de rayoscósmicos que opera con detectores Cherenkov en agua distribuidos en distintasalturas y latitudes de América Latina. En este trabajo se evaluó la ubicación de undetector Cherenkov en agua en Mérida, Venezuela, para el estudio de las componenteselectromagnética y muónica de una cascada secundaria de partículas. En CORSIKA semodeló el flujo de partículas secundarias, en tres ubicaciones de Mérida - Venezuela:en la Hechicera a 1630 m.s.n.m, Observatorio Astronómico Nacional Llano del Hato(OANLLH) a 3600 m.s.n.m y Pico Espejo Mérida a 4754 m.s.n.m. Los resultados delas simulaciones muestran que Pico Espejo es el sitio más adecuado para estudios congamas secundarias, ya que presenta un flujo superior a 103 partículas m2 s−1 y energíascercanas a 500 GeV, superando los valores registrados en la Hechicera y el OANLLH.Además, las simulaciones mostraron una diferencia significativa entre la componenteelectromagnética (gammas, electrones y positrones) y la componente muónica, que loconvierte en la ubicación preferente para estudios de clima espacial con la componentemuónica.
