Generación del conocimiento y defensa terrestre ante NEOs: Asteroide 2024 YR4

Abstract

El estudio de asteroides cercanos a la Tierra (NEOs) ha cobrado una relevanciacrucial en la defensa planetaria. Este artículo examina los avances en la identificacióny monitoreo de estos cuerpos, destacando la evolución de los sistemas globales dedetección y las iniciativas futuras. En particular, se analiza el descubrimiento delasteroide 2024 YR4, cuya detección inicial generó debate sobre su posible impacto en2032. Sin embargo, cálculos precisos descartaron cualquier riesgo de colisión, aunquesu trayectoria sigue bajo observación. Los asteroides representan una oportunidadúnica para expandir nuestro conocimiento sobre el Sistema Solar, pues contieneninformación sobre la formación planetaria y materiales exóticos que pueden estarvinculados al origen de la vida. Nuevas herramientas como el Observatorio Rubi enChile y el Flyeye en Italia, junto con misiones espaciales NEO Surveyor y NEOMIR,que prometen revolucionar la capacidad de detección de NEOs son discutidas aquí.Además, en este artículo se presenta la posición de Venezuela, a través del CIDAy cómo aporta en la defensa planetaria, resaltando la necesidad de fortalecer lavigilancia astronómica global y reafirmando la importancia del monitoreo constantede asteroides como 2024 YR4, no solo para garantizar la seguridad planetaria, sinotambién para avanzar en nuestra comprensión del universo y la historia evolutiva delSistema Solar.
