Abstract

The Bat Literature Project (BatLit) facilitates discovery of scientific literature on bats (Chiroptera). This data publication contains versioned Zotero metadata and provenance of the batlit literature (Sherman et al. 2024) records, as tracked by Preston (a biodiversity data tracker, Elliott et al. 2020,2023) using the following workflow: ZOTERO_TOKEN=[SECRET]\ preston track\ --algo md5\ https://www.zotero.org/groups/5435545/bat_literature_project in which ZOTERO_TOKEN is an API token with sufficient access to Zotero's Bat Literature Project group. Note that, for this publication, the pdf content was not included for copyright reasons. However, secure links (i.e. md5 content hashes) to these PDFs are embedded in the archives. The result is a version corpus of batlit metadata, and their origins, packaged in tar.gz and zip archives. BatLit Literature Record Index Literature records can be extracted from this corpus in various ways. As an example, we show the output of an executed script in list-refs.sh against a recent version of the BatLit Corpus, both of which are provided in included batlit metadata archives (i.e., data.zip, data.tar.gz). For ease of processing, we’ve included a sample of 3 records in the table below, as well as files in tsv/csv formats include 100 records and all records. filenames description data.zip / .tar.gz batlit metadata archive refs-100.tsv / .csv author/date/title/journal of first 100 records refs.tsv / .csv author/date/title/journal of all records data-on-zenodo.zip / .tar.gz archive of associations of batlit metadata to Zenodo record ids refs-on-zenodo-100.tsv / .csv author/date/title/journal/zenodo doi of first 100 records refs-on-zenodo.tsv / .csv author/date/title/journal/zenodo doi of first 100 records list-refs.sh bash script used to generate refs.csv using command bash list-refs.sh > refs.csv First 3 records shown below as an example, and was generated by running: bash list-refs.sh\ | head -4\ | mlr --icsv --oxtab cat Note that id points to the records as seen on Zotero, attachment points to the attachment records as seen on Zotero, attachmentId is the signature/hash of the associated pdf, corpusId is the signature/hash of the applicable BatLit version (see version table below). authors Douglas date 1967 title Article: The Natural History of the Ghost Bat, Macroderma Gigas (Microchiroptera Megadermatidae), in Western Australia journal Western Australia. The files ending with "on_zenodo" contains associations of batlit records with their deposits on Zenodo. See, for instance, the first record in refs-on-zenodo.csv as listed below in XTAB format along with the the bash script that produced it. Note that the alternativeDoi and alternativeDoiUrl point to a Zenodo deposit of Douglas 1967 at doi:10.5281/zenodo.13521017 (as seen on Zenodo on 2025-02-07). cat refs-on-zenodo.csv\ | head -2\ | mlr --icsv --oxtab cat authors Douglas date 1967 title Article: The Natural History of the Ghost Bat, Macroderma Gigas (Microchiroptera Megadermatidae), in Western Australia journal Western Australia.
