Abstract

Dieser Text entstand im Rahmen des Seminars «Sachen machen: Dinge als Quellen der Kulturanalyse» bei Prof. Dr. Marianne Sommer, Universität Luzern; durchgeführt in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Museum Luzern, 2025. Das Hüftpolster war im 18. Jahrhundert ein zentrales Element der weiblichen Mode – und mehr als ein blosses Accessoire. Es formte den Körper, inszenierte ein Idealbild von Weiblichkeit. Anhand eines Hüftpolsters aus der Sammlung des Museums Luzern untersucht dieser Essay die gesellschaftlichen Bedeutungen, welche sich in diesem Kleidungsstück verdichten: Von höfischer Modepolitik über körperliche Disziplinierung bis hin zu Fragen der Intimität im Schneiderhandwerk. Der Blick auf Material, Trageweise und kulturhistorische Kontexte macht deutlich, wie eng Mode, Geschlechterrollen und Vorstellungen des weiblichen Körpers miteinander verflochten waren.
