This project hosts the script, reference list, and original video files for the ASAPbio Preprint Myth Busting Series (Fall 2025). This set of short whiteboard-style videos addresses common misconceptions about preprints, including whether preprints are low quality, whether they block later journal publication, whether they are discoverable/citable, and whether copyright and licensing need to be considered. Although the videos are publicly hosted on YouTube (see links below), this Zenodo record provides a permanent, citable archive under an open license. Educators, librarians, and community organizers are encouraged to reuse, adapt, and share these resources in training sessions, workshops, and outreach activities related to preprints, scholarly communication, and open science. Myth 1: Preprints aren’t peer reviewed, so they must be low quality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPlHMZdOOHgMyth 2: Posting a preprint will prevent subsequent publication in a peer-reviewed journal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNAX2SQRgkcMyth 3: Preprints are not discoverable or citable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzJcELG3WqIMyth 4: Posting a preprint online means I don’t need to think about copyright or licensing [Forthcoming]
