IntroductionIn the Solar Science curriculum you will be provided with five Sessions that are designed to be taught over the course of one month. In Session 2, “Engineering a Sunspotter,” your learners will do a hands-on activity that involves the construction of a device they will use to observe the Sun: a sunspotter! This will be used to safely observe the Sun over the course of a few weeks. Teacher Guides"RearMountingRing.v4" and "FrontMountingRingWithTarget.v5" are intended for use in a 3D printer to create the mounting rings for the Sunspotter. "Sunspot Data" [Google Sheets] is a spreadsheet file to record information regarding sunspot observations through use of the Sunspotter. Student GuidesThe "Student Guide" [Google Drive PDF] documents are to be provided to the students for the activities in Session 2, and instruct them in how to assemble a sunspotter and use it for observing sunspots in this activity. The "Screen Reader" [Google Drive PDF] variant is intended to be accessible for students using screen readers as detailed in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
