Pode a mulher negra testemunhar?

Abstract

Este capítulo examina de que modo o silenciamento compromete a agência epistêmica das mulheres negras, restringindo sua participação na produção e circulação do conhecimento. Parte-se da hipótese de que o silenciamento não constitui um fenômeno episódico, mas estrutural, enraizado em relações de poder que articulam racismo e sexismo. Para sustentar essa proposição, são mobilizadas as contribuições de Miranda Fricker e Kristie Dotson sobre injustiças e violências epistêmicas, bem como as reflexões de autoras negras como Sueli Carneiro, Patricia Hill Collins, Lélia Gonzalez e bell hooks. Inicialmente, discutem-se as categorias formuladas por Fricker, entre elas a injustiça testemunhal preventiva, que impede o testemunho antes mesmo de sua emissão, e a objetificação epistêmica, que reduz a falante a uma mera fonte de informação. A partir das contribuições de Carneiro, desenvolve-se o conceito de asfixia epistêmica, entendido como o sufocamento estrutural da voz e da presença das mulheres negras em espaços de produção de conhecimento. Em seguida, analisam-se as formulações de Dotson acerca da aquietação e do sufocamento testemunhal, destacando o papel da ignorância perniciosa na manutenção dessas formas de silenciamento. Os estereótipos e as imagens de controle que moldam a percepção social das mulheres negras produzem o deslocamento de sua posição de sujeito conhecedor para a de objeto de conhecimento, deslegitimando suas vozes e experiências. Conclui-se que, embora teoricamente as mulheres negras possam testemunhar, na prática seus testemunhos são frequentemente bloqueados, distorcidos ou invalidados. Ainda assim, suas estratégias de resistência epistêmica configuram gestos de afirmação e autopreservação, por meio dos quais denunciam a incompetência de um público que insiste em não escutá-las e reivindicam, assim, o direito de existir como sujeitos plenos do conhecimento.
