Physicochemical Properties of Camelina Biodiesel and Its Blends

Authors: AYDOGAN, Hasan;

Physicochemical Properties of Camelina Biodiesel and Its Blends

Abstract

Dataset Description This dataset contains the physicochemical characterization results of biodiesel produced from Camelina sativa oil using the transesterification method.All measurements were performed in an accredited laboratory (TÜBİTAK) in accordance with EN ISO and ASTM standards. The data include the standard fuel quality parameters such as cetane number, kinematic viscosity, sulfur content, flash point, density, water content, oxidation stability, and metallic contents (Na, K, Ca, Mg, P). All parameters were determined for six different fuel blends: B20: 20% biodiesel + 80% diesel B50: 50% biodiesel + 50% diesel B100: 100% biodiesel B20D65E15: 20% biodiesel + 65% diesel + 15% bioethanol B50D35E15: 50% biodiesel + 35% diesel + 15% bioethanol B85D0E15: 85% biodiesel + 15% bioethanol Biodiesel Production Camelina biodiesel was produced via alkaline transesterification using methanol (CH₃OH) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as the catalyst. Reaction temperature: 55 °C Catalyst concentration: 3.5 g NaOH per liter of oil Molar ratio: 20% methanol (v/v) relative to oil Stirring rate: 80 L/min for 60 min Separation: Glycerol layer removed after 2 h rest Washing: Distilled water, 1:1 v/v ratio, settled 12 h Drying: 100 °C for 2 h to remove residual water The resulting methyl ester was purified and stored at ambient temperature before blending. Blends of diesel (B0), B20, B50, and B100 were prepared volumetrically. In addition, ethanol-containing blends (B20D65E15, B50D35E15, and B85D0E15) were prepared using bioethanol supplied by Konya Şeker A.Ş. Cite As: Aydoğan, H. (2025).
