Bibliometric Analysis of Crime Prevention and Crime Reduction: Global Trends, Gaps, and Policy Implications - Análisis bibliométrico de la prevención y reducción del crimen: tendencias globales, vacíos e implicaciones para las políticas públicas

Abstract

Crime prevention and reduction are reshaping modern criminology, integrating evidence-based approaches to mitigate social and economic impacts. This bibliometric study analyzes the scientific output in this field, assessing its influence on effective public policies. A quantitative-descriptive methodology was employed, using terms related to crime prevention and reduction. A total of 223 documents from Scopus (1977–2025) were analyzed using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix. Results highlight growing interest in predictive technologies, community policing, and early intervention therapies, showcasing the potential of hybrid approaches to optimize equitable interventions. However, challenges persist, including underrepresentation of the Global South and a lack of longitudinal studies. The study concludes that integrating big data, psychology, and economics can enhance the efficacy and equity of crime prevention, but ethical strategies are needed to address biases in AI and ensure sustainability. This study advocates for future research to expand global coverage and strengthen responsible preventive policies, fostering safer societies.
